Vanuatu Tourism To Host AirBnB Pacific Workshop

Local businesses will have the chance to learn how Air B& B works at the Vanuatu Airbnb Pacific workshops that will be held on the May 7 in Santo and May 8 in Port Vila.

Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Australia is coordinating these workshops around the Pacific as part of their Digital Tourism program.

PTI Australia is joining forces with Airbnb to bring a series of workshops to the Pacific islands, providing an opportunity to learn first-hand what home sharing is and how the Airbnb platform works.

“The Vanuatu Tourism Office is pleased to be involved and will be joining the presentation to discuss accreditation, tourism permits, and the Tourism Market Development Fund,” said a spokesman.

“Founded in 2008 Airbnb is a trusted community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique accommodation around the world – online or from a mobile phone. “Whether a beach house for a night, a castle for a week, or an entire house for a month, Airbnb connects people to unique travel experiences, at any price point, in more than 85,000 cities and 191 countries. Chad Morris, General Manager Investment & Tourism, PTI Australia, said that Airbnb is a great opportunity for Ni-Vanuatu to generate extra income.

“Pacific Islanders are naturally amazing hosts, we’re seeing the emergence of a new type of traveller who is looking for a different holiday experience, travellers that may not have considered the Pacific Islands before,” he said.

“Airbnb is a great opportunity for ni-Vanuatu families to generate some extra income from a spare room or beach house they may have. We’ve partnered with Airbnb as we believe it’s important to these workshops to the Pacific so more people can learn and take advantage of the opportunity that Airbnb provides.

“We really appreciate the support of the Vanuatu Tourism Office as our on the ground partner and expert in helping facilitate the workshops. Airbnb is a great fit for the Pacific as it takes a community approach, it’s also a simple process for the host to list and take bookings that don’t require access to a computer. If you have an extra room or house I highly recommend you take advantage of the free workshop and come meet the team from Airbnb and hear what it’s about.”

Brent Thomas, Head of Public Policy Australasia, Airbnb said the upcoming workshops and partnership with PTI Australia demonstrate Airbnb’s commitment to further strengthening local communities in Vanuatu.

“Importantly, we want to continue to work collaboratively with government and Vanuatu Tourism Office to grow our community sustainably, but also responsibly.”
