‘This for That’ to Tackle Single-Use Plastics Launched at SPTE
2 April 2026The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO), organisers of the annual Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE), has facilitated a new partnership between Wallis et Futuna Tourisme and South Pacific Pocket Guide, marking a significant step forward in the digital promotion of one of the Pacific’s most remote and culturally rich destinations.
This collaboration will see the creation of the Wallis and Futuna Pocket Guide (wallisandfutunapocketguide.com), set to become the most extensive travel guide ever produced for the French territory comprising the three islands of Wallis, Futuna and Alofi. Known for its deeply rooted Polynesian culture and diverse volcanic and atoll landscapes, Wallis and Futuna is poised to become more accessible to travellers through this initiative.
Robin, Operations Manager at South Pacific Pocket Guide, highlighted the importance of SPTE in fostering regional collaboration: “SPTE has connected us with eight island nations and territories across the Pacific so far and we are incredibly grateful for their ongoing support in helping drive the digitalisation of the region’s tourism industry.”
The first research trip for the Wallis and Futuna Pocket Guide is now underway, with a dedicated team spending approximately three weeks on the ground. The project involves visiting tourism stakeholders, key sites and attractions across all three islands to ensure the guide delivers detailed, practical and inspiring information for future visitors.
Marion, Tourism Manager of Wallis et Futuna Tourisme, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative: “We are delighted to be working with South Pacific Pocket Guide on this important project. Visitors often have many questions about travelling to Wallis and Futuna, and this guide will ensure those questions are answered in a clear and professional way online, whether it’s on search engine results or using AI tools.”
In addition to content creation, the project includes a strong digital empowerment component. South Pacific Pocket Guide will be building websites for local tourism providers, enabling them to accept online bookings at no cost.
Robin added: “It’s all well and good providing the information, but we also want to empower local businesses who may not yet have the digital skills to connect directly with travellers. By creating simple, effective websites, we’re ensuring that even those with just basic email knowledge can be instantly accessible to a global audience.”
Local providers will have their websites live during the research trip, offering immediate benefits to the destination’s tourism ecosystem.
The Wallis and Futuna Pocket Guide is scheduled for release by late May, offering travellers an unprecedented level of insight into this unique destination while supporting local businesses in reaching international markets.
