Pacific Youth Forum Concludes with Unified Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
24 October 2025VAVA’U, TONGA — The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) officially opened the inaugural Pacific Youth Forum on Sustainable Tourism this morning, with a powerful address by Chief Executive Officer Christopher Cocker. Held at Puataukanave Hotel in Vava’u, the Forum brings together youth delegates from across the Blue Pacific Continent for the first time to shape the future of tourism through dialogue, innovation, and policy influence.
In his opening remarks, Mr Cocker extended a warm welcome to all participants. He acknowledged the generous hospitality of the Government and People of Tonga, as well as the support of PACER Plus in enabling youth participation.
“This Forum is a milestone for our region,” said Mr Cocker. “You are not just attendees—you are contributors to the future of tourism in the Pacific.”
The Forum responds to a call from regional Ministers following the virtual 2023 Pacific Youth Forum and Leadership Summit, and aligns with the Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework’s vision for tourism as a force for good—one that protects the environment, celebrates culture, and uplifts communities.
Mr Cocker emphasised the critical role of youth in driving sustainable development and urged participants to engage deeply, ask bold questions, and offer fresh solutions. “Your energy, creativity, and indigenous wisdom are what will carry us forward,” he said. “Let this week be one of learning, collaboration, and inspiration.”
The Forum runs alongside the 3rd Pacific Sustainable Tourism Leadership Summit and will feature interactive sessions, youth-led discussions, and opportunities to contribute directly to regional tourism strategies.
